With the eyes of a caged elephant, the Thin Wild Duke stared out from his darkness.
“I am here” he said, “lost again”.
The rest of us stood by the fence. We couldn’t see his horizon. We never learned how to breathe. To us escape is leaving, not coming home. To us there is no arrival, only departure.
We are the gatekeepers. The collectors. The numb. The ones who would rather stare into his eyes, than to see him roam the world of his home.
We are here. Lost again. With the eyes of a caged elephant.
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” [Luke 23:34]
